It’s that time of year again when new uniforms are being bought in anticipation of children returning to school. However, for a few, the dawning of September marks the beginning of their final year with the anticipation of their next move to work or University central in their thoughts.

Yet for the Year 14 students of St. Louis Grammar School, Kilkeel, their return to school was anticipated more than usual as they began their final year at St. Louis with their own night on the red carpet– the ‘Sixth Form Formal’. Reminiscent of Oscars nights in Hollywood, the St. Louis students look absolutely stunning in their elegant dresses and smart suits.

Organised by the Year 14 students and co-ordinated by Vice-Principal/Head of Senior School, Mr. Eamonn McGlue and Head of Year 14, Mr Anthony Monaghan, the glittering event was recently held at the fabulous Canal Court Hotel in Newry. It proved to be a fabulous evening in which the students reflected on their days at St. Louis with their teachers. Of course the event provided the students with an opportunity to ‘glam up’ for the night.

The event involved the students being ‘presented’ to their peers, highlighting their hopes and ambitions for the future. Head Boy, David Girvan and Head Girl, Cathleen Garland paid tribute to their school and to their teachers, many of whom were also present, for their encouragement and support over the past six years. A hugely enjoyable night was had by all, well-fitting such an auspicious occasion.

With the formalities over the ‘Class of 2023’ settled down to enjoy a night of reminiscing, reflections and dancing.
